Abstract
In my research with Professor Bork I am learning about the geometry underlying Gothic architecture. I am investigating the design of the Cistercian church of Altenberg, Germany, by using computer graphics in an experimental way. I have found that the ground plan and elevation of the church are based on simple geometric shapes such as polygons and circles that build on each other in interesting but non-random ways. I also found that the elevation grows coherently from the plan. My presentation will include graphics to illustrate my findings respecting Altenberg as well as the methods used in my research.
