A preliminary study was conducted to find an effective augmented reality cue to be used in a collision avoidance system (CAS) study to aid elderly drivers in lane changing decisions. Results from the first study are being used to create a lane-changing experiment that will determine the relationship between biological factors and patterns of performance and safety errors in elderly drivers.

In order to create composite polymer films containing suspended particles, the reaction mixture cannot be poured into sheets until its viscosity has risen substantially. Exponential viscosity change over time, however, makes consistent pouring difficult. Reaching the target viscosity varies widely with time, forcing continuous monitoring of the reaction mixture. Mixture viscosity was correlated with visual observations, and viscosity versus time profiles modeled reaction conditions, revealing the key variable for onset of rapid viscosity change to be rate of temperature change in the mixture. Estimates of appropriate heating time can now commence shortly after starting the reaction, and be refined throughout the process.

Spray drying is a one-step, easily scaled-up process to create dry powder aerosols. The overall goal of this project is to create aerosols to be inhaled into the lungs to treat bacterial infections. In this study, solutions of antibiotic ciprofloxacin hydrochloride, dispersion compound glutamic acid, and flow property improvement excipient L-leucine were spray dried via a factorial design of experiment.
