Many kids have experienced the classic Coke and Mentos science “experiment”, but few learn how it actually works until later in their education. Backyard Science Adventures is an outreach project that aims to introduce young students to the scientific process using these types of classic science activities. This project resulted in a compilation of fun science lessons that can be completed at home, increasing students’ exposure to science outside of the classroom. Each activity targets specific Next Generation Science Standards and imparts a lesson on topics including include biology, chemistry, physics, astronomy, forensics, anatomy, and more. These activities can also be used in science outreach or in the classroom and have been made accessible for public use.
