About This Image
"Fall in for Soup," 1876 etching by Edwin Forbes (1839-1895), based on his 1862 sketch of the Army of the Potomac at Falmouth, Virginia, near Fredericksburg. The third man in line is Walt Whitman, whom Forbes met when Whitman came to Camp Falmouth to see his wounded brother George in December, 1862.
