Review of the 1881 Leaves of Grass in the Toledo, Ohio, Journal (July 1882). See page 54-55. The only known copy of the review is this one, now in the Trent Collection of Walt Whitman Manuscripts, Duke University Rare Book, Manuscript, and Special Collections Library (reproduced with permission). Whitman pasted the review on a sheet of paper and made notations on it. He often preserved and annotated reviews as he prepared to reprint them elsewhere as part of his never-ending campaign to promote Leaves.
