Abstract

This paper will provide a brief overview of the formation and structure of crosslinked polyacrylates synthesized bu free radical crosslinking polymerizations. Theoretical models for the description of network formation will be discussed as well as the structural elucidation using NMR spectroscopy. The kinetic gelation approach is most useful for describing highly crosslinked systems formed with large amounts of tetrafunctional crosslinking agent, and is of limited value for describing lightly crosslinked superabsorbing polymers.
