During the last scene in the jail, the script says that the jail is cold. The men wear coats to signify the chilly temperature of the jail. Judge Danforth wears a red scarf that symbolizes his rage towards the women of Salem. Elizabeth Proctor is less well maintained than she was at the beginning of the play - her blouse is undone, her hair is loose, and she is barefoot.
