This picture shows Julia I. Sand and her sisters. Julia I. Sand was a young cripple woman who corresponded with Chester A. Arthur during his presidency.
Since this production takes place from 1881 to 1933, my goal was to showcase a silhouette that could bridge the span of time, but also remain within a small budget. For the women I created draped fabric swags that were worn over skirts and blouses to give a sense of the fashion bustle period.
