Bruce Fehn, a recently retired Associate Professor in the Department of Education and Program of Social Studies at UI, became involved in the humanities after switching his major from preliminary work in dentistry to history in college during the 1970s. This change drove his interest in researching and understanding the perspective of underprivileged African Americans in the United States. He recounts his interactions with two specific individuals whose stories shaped his take on life and education.
