Abstract

The story of the literary community of Iowa City's Haunted Bookshop

Iowa City is one of very few UNESCO cities of literature, a distinction it has thanks in no small part to its many bookstores, including Haunted Bookshop. Haunted Bookshop is one of Iowa City's oldest and best-loved bookstores, thanks to its vibrant literary community. With its thousands-strong collection of obscure and out-of-print books, charismatic staff, and live-in cats, Haunted bookshop offers a unique experience for the people of Iowa City. We chose to tell its story because we instantly fell in love with the place (and the cats), and because of the particular qualities of the community.
