The Learning Commons is a new and unique study space offered the main library at the University of Iowa. In our Iowa Narratives Project, we take a closer look at the new Learning Commons at the Main Library at the University of Iowa. Although the area is relatively new, it has gained massive popularity among students and faculty due to its function as an active collaborative learning space.

We interviewed the learning commons coordinator Brittney Thomas, as well as Haley Henscheid, a student at the University to get a better look at what makes the Learning Commons such a popular area. We discussed the importance of the active collaborative space, and how the cafe, open areas, and group rooms all contribute to the success of the area. The Learning Commons is a space that bridges the gap between the idea of a "traditional" library and a modern one.
