This archive represents a collection of work submitted by participants in the International Writing Program from 2001 to present. Each year, program participants provide a sample of their writing (in original English or in an English translation) as part of their application to the residency. That text is then made available on the IWP website, alongside the participant’s short biography: http://iwp.uiowa.edu/residency.

In addition to writing samples, this collection includes short thematic essays commissioned from the writers for a weekly panel series at the Iowa City Public Library, as well as their presentations at the Iowa City Book Festival or other similar occasions.

Documents are listed below by year of residency, starting with the most recent. You can also search in the right sidebar if you know the author’s name, his/her country of origin, or the title of a work.

This archive is intended for non-commercial educational, research, or public interest uses only. Any publication of works included here must be by written permission of the author.

A comprehensive Audio/Video archive of IWP residents’ readings and presentations while in Iowa City can be found in the Iowa Digital Library.

More information about the fifty years of the program can be seen on the 50th anniversary website.

For a visual map of residents across time, by country or by language, see the IWP timeline map.
