Looking back at Orlando, since the ensemble dressed in the sea of white, off-white, and skin-toned period undergarments the focus was kept on the title character who wore red, the most dominant color and had century driven costume changes. The textures and colors of the fabric that I chose for Orlando had a similar color tone and incorporated floral details that provided accents of my original ‘blooming’ theme, while still foreshadowing the moment that Orlando realizes that her identity is who she has always been. Additionally, showcasing the period undergarments meant that I had to be mindful of what foundational garments were needed in each era and how they would impact the look of my design from the undergarment out, as well as accounting for the movement dynamics of the cast and their choreography.
